TOP TEN: Favourite Songs

by - 19:22

So, thanks to a 1am conversation with my friend Natalie (http://nataliestoddart.blogspot.co.uk/) I am here trying to do another 'TOP TEN'...catchy title

This time, it's my top ten favourite songs.

10. The Importance Of Being Idle - Oasis

I grew up with Oasis. Dad used to play them all the time and they remind me of happy memories. This is the only Oasis song on the list even though all of them are spectacular. I chose this one because when I went to Wales last year the only CD I had with me was 'What's The Story? (Morning Glory)' and when I drove to Tesco I would always listen to this one first.

Favourite Lyric : "I can't get a life if my heart's not in it' (basically me in every situation)

9. Happily - One Direction
There was a great debate in my head and my heart when I was trying to think about where this song would come. Had this been a 'TOP TEN: One Direction' it would be near the top of my list. However, top of my favourite songs of all time? Maybe not...I love this song because it reminds me of last summer when I travelled to wembley at silly o'clock in the morning, waited outside in the boiling sunshine for a good 9 hours (and burnt all of my legs and face may I add...

...look at that red face and arm...ouch! Anyway, after all the waiting I saw One Direction live for the second time. This was one of the songs in the setlist and they had confetti cannons and I danced and cried and sang and it was lovely. One Direction will always have a special place in my heart. They have made my teenage life bearable and are the reason Natalie and I met. CUTE.

Favourite Lyric : 'Sorry love, but I don't really care'

8. Irish Blood, English Heart - Morrissey

Morrissey is another one of the artists I grew up with (much to mums disapproval). Dad is a huge fan and so he was always on in our car. This is his best song (in my opinion anyway). It's just so catchy and I love the lyrics and there are no more words.

Favourite Lyric : 'I've been dreaming of a time when the English are sick to death of Labour and Tories'

7. Mr Brightside - The Killers

Love, Love, Love. This was on one of the singstar games and I always loved singing it and beating Dad because he didn't really know the words. Just makes me want to dance around, feel like this was the soundtrack to a good few years of my life!

Favourite Lyric : Started off with a kiss, how did it end up like this?

6. Dear John - Taylor Swift

I loved this version of Taylor Swift, not that I don't love the new one, but this style of music was what I really loved when I was smaller. I don't tend to listen to this album anymore, apart from 'Better Than Revenge'. However, this is one song that I adore. It just described perfectly a friendship I went through at one point (even though the song is about a relationship) some of it still applies. It always makes me really emotional and if I need a good ballad type song, this is what I go to.

Favourite Lyric : (THERE ARE SO MANY) 'but I took your matches before fire could catch me so don't look now, I'm shining like fireworks over your sad empty town

5. 3 A.M. - Busted

I was always a Busted girl (thanks Dad). They were my first boyband obsession and at the time I fancied the pants off of James. However, I no longer have posters of their faces on my walls and I don't watch their videos and think about how much I fancy them. I still love their music. That's the test of a good boyband I feel. If you still listen to them after they've grown up and you still enjoy it then you've got yourself a winner. This song was always my favourite for some reason. It seemed very dramatic at the time. Me and Dad used to listen to this loads and now, in just less than a month we will hear it live together for the first time in about 11 years (I went to a Busted concert with him when I was 7...coolest kid).

Favourite Lyric : 'I don't think that my heart can take much more'

4. The Man Who Can't Be Moved - The Script

The Script. They were kind of my third boyband obsession I guess? I love all of their music but this song was the first song I heard and it has stuck with me for whatever reason. I just think the lyrics are lovely and the idea behind the song is lovely and Danny is lovely also (although I didn't think that so much when I was younger).

Favourite Lyric : 'There's someone I'm waiting for, if it's a day, a month, a year'

3. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths

Morrissey is back, and this time, he's a bit less of a dick! Dad used to play this all the time in the car and I used to utterly hate it. I never used to get it and I just used to think it was dumb. Then, as I grew up, I started to appreciate it more and I remember once saying I liked it and Dad suddenly attacked me with loads of 'The Smiths' and 'Morrissey' songs and I can now say I'm a big fan. It's also in Gavin and Stacey (it's that song that Dorris sings on the guitar when they're having a BBQ) which makes it cool I feel. I also loved that thing they did in Manchester once where they did the ending and all of the band stopped playing one by one...if you like the smiths you'd appreciate it...google it.

Favourite Lyric : 'I never never want to go home because I haven't got one anymore'

2. The Scientist - Coldplay

These last two songs swapped many times before I finally made up my mind. I'm still not 100% sure of my decision. I love Coldplay and if you know me you should know that. I just think that all their music is beautiful and the lyrics are so sentimental and they're classics. This is one of my favourites because it reminds me of when I went to Germany on an exchange. I was so happy at that time I didn't even care and as we walked around we were singing this (piano parts and all) and it was just lovely.

Favourite Lyric : 'You don't know how lovely you are'

1. The Heart Never Lies - Mcfly

OH JUST LOOK AT THAT ALBUM COVER. I have chosen this as my all time favourite song. This song never fails to make me cry (no word of a lie, I sob). It also brings back some happy memories. One year I went to a McFly concert and I was front row. This was on the setlist. As promised, I started to cry. Dougie came right up to my face, pointed at his arse and went 'the fart never lies'...

Ah, the excitement. I also got Harry's towel, good night all round if you ask me. McFly have always been a favourite of mine. They've got me through a lot of tough times with their music, made me laugh, made me cry but most of all, made me happy (cringe cringe cringe) and that is why they deserve the number 1 spot!

Favourite Lyrics : '10 years are over, but we're still together, it's not always easy, but McFly's here forever' (from the live RAH version)

Thanks for reading!
