REVIEW : Wake Up - The Vamps (Blogmas Day Eight)

by - 04:58

Hello you lovely lot!

So, I have been a big fan of The Vamps for a few years now. I don't love them as much as I love my beloved One Direction boys or the McFly lads. However, I enjoy their music a lot and so I thought I would make a blog post about their new album!

Wake Up
Obviously I’d heard this before the album came out because it was the first single and what not but it did take me a while to hear it. I think I heard it 2 or 3 weeks after it had been released? I didn’t even make a conscious effort to listen to it, it came on the TV when I was in my flat! However, I do like it and I think it’s a really good start to the album!

Rest Your Love

I think this one is the start of the different sound for The Vamps. I love their first album and all the songs on it but I also love the way they’re going with this! It’s not so far that I wouldn’t know it was The Vamps but something different! It’s very catchy and something I could listen to in the shower if I wanted to!

Volcano (feat. Silentó)

I love this until Silentó comes in. I just don’t like him and I don’t know why! I can’t remember the other song he’s on that was in the charts but I remember I didn’t like that either. I need to find a version without him in it please because I never listen to it when I love the chorus! I think the tune is great and it really shows off Brad’s voice. As soon as Silentó’s bit is over it’s such a good song and maybe even one of my favourites!

Million Words

I LOVE this song. It’s one of the best songs on the album and it’s so beautiful. It’s no secret that I love slow ballad type songs, especially from The Vamps because Brad has such a soothing voice. Luckily I can listen to this without breaking down but I think if I thought about it hard enough I could. Obviously I’m at Uni and so quite far away from people I love but there’s not a lad in my life which is basically what this song is about (although Brad is singing about a girl).

Windmills

This one is so catchy and I sometimes find myself singing it to myself whilst I walk about my flat. I don’t even know it that well, I just kind of know the beginning bit… but that’s what happens isn’t it? You know one tiny bit and you get it stuck in your head for such a long time that it actually gets on your nerves a little bit. I like listening to this when I’m in a good mood because it makes me feel even happier, is that a thing?

Stolen Moments

I heard this one before the album came out because I think you could get it if you pre-ordered the album? I just found it on Spotify because I’m lazy but I fell in love with it instantly. I used to play it all the time and I think the girl who lives in the room next to me, Kayleigh, might have heard it as many times as I have now (sorry Kayleigh). I think it has beautiful lyrics and is one of my favourites!

I Found A Girl

I absolutely love the lyrics to this one. I just think it’s so different from the stuff you hear in the charts and the stuff you hear from The Vamps too! I love the little bits in between Brad in the verses, I think they really make the song more interesting! I’m so glad they put this on the album because I just think it’s amazing! From reading the title I just thought it would be a soppy love song about how they had found a girl who is ‘the one’ but it’s so much more than that.

Be With You

Another one of my favourites, even if I only know the chorus. This album is just full of catchy songs! I think this is quite classic for The Vamps I guess but that doesn’t make it any less amazing. When I listen to an album I wait until I find three of four that I like and I listen to them constantly. It usually takes me a while to listen to the rest of a new album (apart from 1D obviously). This was a song that I found about a week after I had the album and it came on shuffle on my way to Uni (that seems to be the way I find all my favourite songs nowadays). I am now obsessed with it though.

Burn

This is one of the ones I haven’t really listened to before or if I have I’ve listened to it without knowing. You know when you’re just on shuffle and doing something else and you just zone out and before you know it you’re listening to ‘Now That’s What I Call Disney’? No? Just me? I do really like the chorus of this one but the verse doesn’t necessarily grab me. If I listen to it a few more times I’m sure I’ll come around and love it!

Cheater

I saw the video for this by accident. YouTube has that autoplay thing now and it was just going though music videos before it landed on this. I was obsessed as soon as I heard it. Plus the video has made me fall in love with Connor and now I like to remember when they supported McFly and I was front row. Good times. I literally had this on repeat for about a week and I learnt all the words and I was telling Natalie all about it. People must have hated me or thought I’d been cheated on for me to love it so very much! I think this might be my favourite song on the album?

Boy Without A Car

The beginning of this reminds me of a 5SOS song for some reason? I love this song even though I haven’t really listened to it very many times. I think the lyrics are quite sweet when you really listen to it. I’ll definitely have to listen to this one a bit more when I have the time and I think it could quickly become a favourite!

Held By Me

The beginning of this really grabbed my attention and I think I’ve skipped this one way too many times when I really should have given it a chance seeing as I actually quite like it now I’m listening to it! I think it’s a good choice for the album and really fits in with the rest of the songs and the sound The Vamps are trying to create with this album. I love it when songs go quiet and it’s basically just someone singing and this song does exactly that!

Half Way There

Another one that I listened to on the bus to Uni. Typical me. I think this one is so lovely and I have been in this situation before. Nothing good came out of it but you know, it’s nice to know if it had been Brad from The Vamps he would have taken a different road than the boy I liked did. I can dream. The chorus to this is another catchy one and another one I find myself singing. This is one of the best songs (have I said that for every single song?!) on the album!

Runaway

This is the last song I haven’t really listened to…promise! This is quite similar to another song on the album but I can’t think what it is this second. However, I do like it! It’s not one of the best but I can see why people would like it and why they chose it to be on the album! The lyrics are nice and Brad sounds like an angel as per usual.

Worry

I only found this a few days ago but I am OBSESSED with it! I know it’s quite a sad one and I normally play sad songs when I’m sad but I play this any time. I just love the notes in the chorus, is that weird? Does anyone know what I mean? And the bit about shutting the curtain (this must sound very odd if you haven’t listened to the song) and it’s silent in the background gets me. I definitely don’t belt this one out when it comes on…nope. I also like the fact it has the words ‘Wake Up’ in it and that it’s not just the one song that relates to the album title!

Coming Home

This song makes me a bit emotional I must admit. I am away from home now I’m at University obviously and I know this is meant to be about a relationship but you know, I miss my parents and my friends and coming home is the best feeling! I’ve never been on a tour either so I imagine it’s a different scenario but I like to think I can relate to it on some level at least. This is right down my alley with the ballad type melody and is just amazing. I would be very proud of this if I were The Vamps, although I think I would be proud of the whole album.

Peace Of Mind

I went through a stage of loving this but now I don’t play it very often. I’m not sure why, I guess I’ve found other songs off the album to put my love in to! I think this is a nice break from the slow songs since the last two have been a bit more sombre! When the chorus comes on I tend to sing ‘let me know where I went wrong all those years ago’. It turns out those aren’t actually the lyrics but there you have it.

Written Off

I don’t think this is really what I expected from The Vamps and I know I’ve said that quite a lot but it’s true! This album as a bit of a shock for me! I think it took me a while to get in to their first album but I’ve loved this album and its sound ever since it came out! I listen to this every now and then and I think I like it more and more every day. You wait, it might even be in my December Favourites!
