REVIEW : Sounds Good Feels Good - Five Seconds of Summer

by - 04:46

Hello you lovely lot!

So, I am listening to the 5SOS album for the first time and I thought I could do a first impressions kind of thing? I have heard one or two songs before but not all of them so most of these really are first impressions.

Money

I've heard this one a few times before and at first I wasn't sure if I liked it but now I love it! This is a really great start to the album and has already got me excited for the rest of it. It's so catchy and one you can proper sing your heart out to if you wanted to. It's not to everyones taste I admit and I don't think it was to mine when I first played it but my opinion has flipped completely!

Favourite Line : From the floor to the ceiling, robbing and stealing

She's Kinda Hot

Now, I've heard this so many times before and I still love it, I think it was a really good choice for a single and I think that it's another one you can sing along to as loud as you want, that mainly applies to the chorus though I must admit.

Favourite Line : We are the leaders of the 'Not Coming Back's'

Hey Everybody

It seems to be the first four that I've heard before? This is another one I've listened to, I used to be obsessed with it and played it straight for a good 24 hours, honestly. I spoke about it on my 'October Playlist'  so you can read about it there!

Permenant Vacation

This is my favourite song at the moment. I listened to it live when I went to see them in Birmingham and even though I didn't know the words I felt like I could sing and dance to it? It's just super catchy! I also talked about it in my 'October Playlist' video!

Jet Black Heart

This is the first one off the album I hadn't heard before writing this post. This seems to be one I can go for and it's almost like a ballad? I love the bit where it goes silent, stuff like that is on my checklist for how to make an amazing song! I have a feeling I'm going to love this on in the future because, to be honest, I love it already.

Catch Fire

This one doesn't really catch my attention as some of the others, I'm not sure what it is about it? It's a good song don't get me wrong, I just don't think it fits in maybe? I do like it, I'm just not as in love with it as I am with songs like Permenant Vacation.

Safety Pin

I love the bit with the drums at the beginning! I wasn't sure when I first heard this but now I really like it. My favourite bit is towards the end of the chorus where there's bits of silence when they sing, does that even make sense? Probably not my favourite (because Permanent Vacation exists) but it's a close call!

Waste The Night

I've listened to about 2 bars so far and I already love it, is that even possible? I must admit I didn't really understand the first bit but you know, there will come a time where I listen to it and I suddenly go 'oh...' so I'll just wait for that I guess. Think this one could get stuck in my head for today so we'll find out.

Vapor

Again with the drums, I think I just love a good drum pattern? I like the fact that this one seems to be a bit tamer, there's not loads of loud guitars and drums (contradicting myself here, sorry) and vocals. Just a nice break in the album, also, I can't resist a ballad type song.

Castaway

The beginning of this one is something I can imagine myself singing really loud in my car on the way to work. Yes. This one is a huge yes. It's not quite as poppy as some of the others. Don't get me wrong I love a bit of pop (One Direction are a prime example) but I do like a bit of all types of music so it's nice to hear something a bit different. Also I like the big build up to the chorus, stuff like that makes my kind of song.

The Girl Who Cried Wolf

YES. I love stuff like this, as much as I love Permanent Vacation and how rocky it is, I do enjoy a softer bit. I like the drums (surprise surprise) and the fact that it builds up (which i think i've mentioned a few times in this but you know, can't beat a good build up!)

Broken Home

I've heard a lot about this one so I'm looking forward to actually listening to it. I like the violins (are they even violins?) and it's something I really didn't expect from 5SOS. The lyrics are a bit emotional and I can see why everyone loves it. This is such a heartfelt song and it's probably Amnesia part 2 because I cry at Amnesia a lot (Is that sad? maybe? It's just very emotional alright). If they play this when I see them in April I know I'll sob. Even if they don't play it I'll sob. The bridge in this is probably my favourite part, I think a bridge makes or breaks a song and the bridge is usually the best part of any song in my personal opinion. The quiet bit after it is also top notch. I approve 5SOS.

Fly Away

This is a big jump from Fly Away which is probably a good thing because after Broken Home I need something I can dance around it. I love the chorus in this (and I think I've listened to it before?). It's one of those songs that I won't know the words too so I'll be walking around going 'I want a little bit of blah blah blah blah with a little bit of blah blah blah'.

Invisible

I've only listened to the first bit with the guitar and I know I'm going to love it already. As i've said I love a ballad and I think this definitely counts as one. This is probably one of my favourites on the album but that might just be because I'm a big soppy girls blouse really. The lyrics are once again, quite emotional, probably not as tear jerking as Broken Home but I think it's definitely close.

Airplanes

This reminds me of The Wombats for some reason? I love the beginning of it with whatever it is that plays those notes (so good at writing reviews). As I listen to more of it I think I've heard it before but I'm not 100% sure. Either way it's quite catchy and I do quite like it! Not sure it catches my attention like some of the others but I can see that it's a good song!

San Fransisco

I'm not sure how I feel about this but so far I've only listened to the first bit. I actually do quite like the chorus, I think it's just the verses that don't grab my attention. Not one I'll be playing in my car I don't think but don't think I'd skip it. Again, I like the bridge but I think that's probably the same for all these songs to be honest. This is a very long album I've discovered

Outer Space / Carry On

Is this two separate songs? I don't quite get it. It's 6 minutes long so I presume it is. I like Outer Space. I think it's one of those songs thats in-between a ballad and a fast song and I'm not always sure how I feel about those ones but this one seems good! I have now discovered that it is two songs and I don't really get why they've stuck them together? Why don't they just make two different ones? Very confusing. Carry On is a bit odd but I think that when the beat comes in I might like it? Unless the whole song is like this? I feel like it's a hymn at the moment and I don't think I like it? Turns out it's quite quiet all the way through. Not my favourite.

So, there's my impression of 5SOS' second album! I don't know if I like it as a collective more than the first one but there are songs which I definitely like more than any of the songs on the other album. It's a mixed bag so far but give me a few weeks and it'll be on my next month favourites, place your bets!

Thanks For Reading!
