REVIEW : Made In The A.M.- One Direction (Blogmas Day One)

by - 05:01

Hello you lovely lot!

Ok. So. Here we go. I have been waiting for this album for such a long time and I have listened to all the teasers and kept so up to date and IT’S FINALLY HERE. I’m currently on a train back to Nottingham and I promised myself that I was going to save this album for the train journey so that when I wrote this blog post it would be like first impressions. However, I was awake at midnight on the 13th and got a notification telling me that the album was out and I couldn’t resist. So I have already listened to the album but I’m still going to do a review, obviously. In hindsight, it’s probably good I didn’t listen to it for the first time on the train because many tears were shed, and when I say that, I literally sobbed as my friend Natalie can tell you.

So, we better get on with it!

Hey Angel

As soon as I heard this I said to Natalie ‘it sounds like Robbie Williams’ and it does. If you listen to the beginning of ‘Millennium’ by Robbie and then the beginning of this. BANG. You’re welcome. I love this one, it’s not what I was expecting, I think I was expecting a bit of a slower song and one that would make me cry but I think it’s a brilliant start to the album

Favourite Part : ‘I come alive when I hear your voice, it’s a beautiful sound, it’s a beautiful noise’

Drag Me Down

Obviously I’d heard this before the album came out and I’ve even heard it live twice. I was at Natalie’s when I first heard this song and she waited till I was awake (even though it came out about three hours before I did actually wake) until she listened to it. Best friend award goes to her (round of applause for you there Natalie). I still love this one which shocks me because when it first came out I played it again and again and again and again and…you get the idea. Normally when I do this I get sick of the song pretty quick, but this has yet to happen with this one!

Favourite Part: Harrys little twiddly bits…clearly.

Perfect

Now as you probably already know, I’ve heard this before too. I also heard this live which was such a surprise because I didn’t think they would add it to the setlist permanently. I have already written about this song on my ‘October Playlist’ post but I do love it.

Favourite Part: ‘and if you’re looing for someone to write your breakup songs about…baby I’m perfect…BABY WE’RE PERFEEEEEECT’ and so on…

Infinity

I think this was in my ‘October Playlist’ post too and as I said on that, I didn’t like this when it first came out. I thought that the verse was juts a bit dull and a bit lacking but I did enjoy the chorus. Now I love this and I especially love it on in the shower so I can sing my heart out, but not in my University Flat because you can hear everything. Not sure they need my rendition of this one.

Favourite Part: When Harry goes ‘INFINITAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY’ in the last chorus. You can quote me on that.

End of The Day

When I first heard this and realized the chorus went in to half-time I was so confused. It sounds like two different songs and I just couldn’t work out the tune in my head! However, I have now got it in my head and I think it’s a lovely little song! The chorus does get stuck in my head from time to time though which is a bit annoying but I guess it’s the sign of a good tune!

Favourite Part: ‘You’re the one that I want at the end of the day…’ OR ‘and when the city is sleeping, you and I can stay awake and keep on dreaming’

If I Could Fly

This is the first one on the album that made me cry and if I’m being honest, I didn’t really stop from here on in. I just think this is a beautiful song and it’s the lyrics more than anything…and maybe Harry’s voice? I feel like it’s a continuation of ‘Half A Heart’ and I LOVE IT. The boys all sound amazing on this (and every song on the album, of course). I sent so many snapchats of me crying to Natalie whilst I was listening to this and if I wasn’t on the train right now, I would probably be crying. I am just very proud of One Direction.

Favourite Part: ‘For when you’re lonely and forget who you are…’ OR ‘I can feel your heart inside of mine I FEEL IT, I FEEL IT’

Long Way Down

I’m not really sure how I feel about this one at the moment. It doesn’t grab my attention like the other ones do but I can see that it’s a lovely song! I think it also reminds me of something by Robbie Williams but I haven’t decided what. I think this will definitely grow on me the more I listen to it and it will be probably be one of my favourites by the time the next album comes out (which is a long time away *SOB*).

Favourite Part: ‘Now it’s just too late to turn around’

Never Enough

I LOVE THIS. I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOVE IT, I LOOOOVE IT. Ok, so I quite like this one. I remember hearing the leaked bit of this and thinking it was the most amazing thing I’d ever heard in my life but they’ve made it even better since I heard that and I think it’s probably my favorite song at the moment, let alone of just the album! It’s just so different to anything I’ve ever heard them done. I think this is the first song that really shows how mature this album is and how much One Direction have changed over the past years.

Favorite Part: The ‘COME ONNN’ after the chorus, love it.

Olivia

It’s taken me about 24 hours to realise how much I love this song but know I realise how amazing it is, I listen to it SO much. I’m sure my little cousin Liv is chuffed because she loves a bit of One Direction. She makes me feel way too old to love them because she’s 13 or 14 and she likes them too. However, life goes on, I love Harry Styles too much to be embarrassed so it’s fine. This is so catchy and I remember Liam uploading that tiny like 10 second clip of it and I wasn’t sure what to think. However, now I know exactly what to think, I think it’s amazing.

Favourite Part: ‘This isn’t the stain of red wine, I’m bleeding love..’ OR ‘I love you, I love you, I love, I love, I love Olivia’ OR the whole chorus OR the bit where Louis basically screams the chorus (so many favourites).

What A Feeling

I think this one is so funky but it’s not one of my favourites. I feel like it sounds like a disco song but there you have it! Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I think again, this one will have to grow on me but I can appreciate that it’s a good song and is very catchy!

Favourite Part: ‘What a feeling to be a king beside you somehow, I wish I could be there now’

I Want to Write You a Song

I cried at this one too, I won’t lie. I think it’s mainly because Harry wrote it and that makes any song more emotional in my eyes, although I think Harry could flip his hair and I would cry. This is so beautiful and I would love to know who it’s about (it’s secretly about it but you know, trying to throw you off the scent…ha…ha…ha…why doesn’t Harry love me). I love the fact that this is just so slow and quiet, it’s beautiful. I can’t write anymore because I’m on this train and I would like to keep my dignity by not sobbing

Favourite Part: “Oooo, everything I need I get from you, Oooo, giving back is all I wanna do’

Temporary Fix

This is probably my second favourite on the album and I knew that from the second I heard the teaser. This is also not what I expected from the boys at all but I’m so glad that they decided to put it on the album. Also, can we talk about the fact that Harry doesn’t really sound like Harry here? His voice sounds a lot deeper and raspier and I don’t know why but I do love it. Makes me go weak at the knees, I wish I was joking. I love a bit of rock so this is right up my alley to be honest with you. I love the fact that One Direction are getting a bit cheekier with lyrics too and are no longer singing about the fact that looking at the ground makes me attractive (no offence lads, WMYB is a right banger…just…you know…soz).

Favourite Part: 'We can moan in the darkness, let me touch you where you're hottest' (KILL ME NOW)

Walking In The Wind

This is my dad's favourite on the album. When I played it to him he said "This is the best one you've played me so far". He did also think 'What Makes You Beautiful' was written by Ed Sheeran though so I wouldn't take his word for granted. It's probably one of my favourites on the album though and Natalie told me that it made her cry because she thought of Zayn so now it makes me cry because I think of Zayn. Thanks Natalie. I think it's just so beautiful and one I could listen to again and again.

Favourite Part: 'AWOOOOO we had some times didn't we, AWOOOOOO we had some good tricks up our sleeves'...that's definitely how it goes.

Wolves

This one doesn't sound like I first expected it to even though I'd heard the teaser for it. I think I just expected it to be faster? I love it anyway, it's probably one of my favourites on the album. I love the lyrics and also Harry sounds amazing, although Harry always sounds amazing so I'm not sure if that's really a valid point. I love the meaning behind this song and I just think it's so different to their previous stuff but I think I'm saying that about nearly every song on this album, but the boys are right, they've matured.

Favourite Part: 'I aint up for debating, aint enough for the taking, you got the whole world shaking'

A.M.

I cried when i first heard the teaser for this, is that sad? I just thought it was so lovely and it had Harry in it, so you know, I think that's a legit reason to be honest. I still think this songs is just as lovely although it doesn't make me cry anymore (ha...ha...anyway). I just love the lyrics and I think it's a nice break from all the up tempo ones, as lovely as they are.

Favourite Part: 'You know I'm always coming back to this place'

Love You Goodbye

I didn't mind this one when I first heard it but I wasn't crazy about it. Now I am most definitely crazy about it. I think it's just such a beautiful song and Harry singing the chorus gets me every time. I totally don't put this on in the shower and sing it like I've been in this situation (which I haven't by the way). So, anyway. I think this is probably another one of my favourites on the album even though it wasn't to begin with. It has grown on me without a doubt.

Favourite Part: 'My hearts already breaking baby go on, twist the knife'

History

I'm not 100% sure how I feel about this one, I used to love it when I came out but now I can compare it to the album I don't think I like it as much as I used to. I love the fact it's about the fans and I also love that the claps in it are fans clapping. I don't love that i wasn't invited but you know, my time will come. I think this one will have to grow on me again because I'm so obsessed with all the new songs I'm hearing rather than the ones that have been out for a few days. I do think this song is very sweet and I can appreciate how amazing it is.

Favourite Part : The bit where it's all quiet and they sing the chorus, lovely stuff.

So, there you have it! That's my opinion on the boys new album! Overall I think it's the best albums o far but I usually say that to be honest with you. I think the boys have really matured and this album proves it. I LOVE UT.

Thanks for reading!
