Berlin
Hello You Lovely Lot!
If you follow me on any social media you will know that I went to Berlin (since it's all I talked about for a solid week, not even sorry!). So, whilst I have mentioned it in dribs and drabs it was always going to have it's own blog post.
So, on Sunday the 20th of March, after having only been at home for about 24 hours, I got on a train down to London Luton Airport and took a flight to Berlin. I was quite anxious about flying on my own which i didn't think I would be since I usually love flying and when I bought the tickets I actually cried with excitement. I had been nervous for a few days and the only thing I could really stomach was some revels and half a bottle of juice.
(a rather vain selfie I took before I left the house)
Everything in the airport was fine and I got through with about an hour and a half until my gate was announced so I bought myself and Natalie a lipstick and some things from Boots that I couldn't bring through because of the 100ml rule. I used the free wifi (twice, two different emails, felt like a god of some kind) to watch some YouTube videos which really helped calm my nerves and just scroll through my social media before my gate was finally announced. I wanted to get on and off the plane as fast as I could so I just headed straight to my gate and got on the plane.
Being right at the back wasn't great since I felt quite a bit of turbulence but I had my music and my book which helped calm my nerves. I practically ran off the plane to get through to arrivals to see Natalie and I have never been more relieved in my life I have to say. We got on a few trains black to her apartment before I climbed some stairs (which I have renamed 'The Stairs of Doom' because they nearly killed me). We took selfies, filmed silly videos and just laughed for the night. Natalie also gave me some haribo peaches (the best sweets EVER) and some chocolate!
M O N D A Y (DAY 1)
We didn't get out of the house till like 3pm which was nice since I'm used to being up and out by 9am! On the first full day we went and did a bit of window shopping to begin with then got the train to Brandenburg gate! I have been to Berlin before on an exchange and drove past Brandenburg gate but never actually got to see it properly so it was nice to be able to see it!
(Natalie decided to start crouching down and taking photos from different angles, hence the laughter)
It was a tad rainy so we didn't stay long. Our next stop was Potsdamer Platz where there's a piece of the Berlin Wall...
We then went home and had a chinese and watched television. It's things like this that you miss when you don't see your best friend very often.
T U E S D A Y (DAY 2)
Once again we had a massive lie in (which was pretty much the same for every day to be honest) before we went to Alexanderplatz.
We looked in a few more shops (including Urban Outfiters where we obviously took some photo-booth photos and then a selfie with the good lighting in there)
and saw the TV tower which was gigantic and slightly daunting I have to say. We also saw a world clock!
We then went to see The East Side Gallery. Artists were hired to create artwork on The Berlin Wall so we went to have a look and it was so amazing.
It was so interesting to walk along the wall and see all of the artwork and some of them have a clear meaning behind them which really makes you think about what was happening at the time and what continues to happen today.
We then got another takeaway (Chicken this time) and watched more TV. These were probably my favourite parts of the day because it was nice to sit down and just chat (even though we'd talked all day).
W E D N E S D A Y (DAY 3)
This was probably my favourite day of them all even though we literally did nothing. Natalie wasn't very well so we decided we would just stay in bed, which we literally did until like 7pm. This day created so many private jokes (that weren't that private because they were on our snapchat) and just so many happy memories. We then ate some pasta (I know, not a takeaway!) and went to get Natalie's mum from the airport since she was coming too! Natalie had 10 days off so invited us both there. It was nice to spend a day literally doing nothing since I'm so used to being up and at them every single day.
T H U R S D A Y (DAY 4)
On Thursday we woke up slightly earlier (I say that but I don't know if we did, I thoroughly enjoyed the 3/4pm lie ins to be honest) and took quite a few selfies before we headed out (including one on my polaroid which now lives on the back of my phone!)
We went back to Brandenburg gate because the first time we went, we had been too scared to ask anyone to take a photo of the two of us together in front of it. We had Natalie's mum to do that the second time so we finally got one!
This was the only sunny day so I took full advantage and put my sunglasses on. We then went to the Jewish Memorial which is basically loads of different sized concrete blocks that you can walk through. Some are tiny but some tower over you which is a bit odd! We then went to graffiti alley which is a lovely little alleyway (believe it or not) covered in...wait for it...graffiti!
As you can see there was more laughing and these photos are two of my favourites because it is genuine laughter that's happening even if it was more awkward because we didn't really know what to do!
Then it was time to go to Checkpoint Charlie which was so interesting. It's where a crossing between the two sectors used to be and there was loads of photos around and facts too. When I got home my Dad said he wanted to go because when he was younger he had seen it on the news all the time!
Next we went to Templehoff which is a big airport that is no longer used. Hitler built it and it was absolutely massive but for whatever reason they stopped using it so now it's used for things like fashion shows. We walked along the runway which was a bit weird and you feel like a plane is going to appear any minute! Then we went home after the longest day ever and had chinese again (surprise, surprise) since it was my last night and went to bed (after locking Natalie's mum in the loo because we're so lovely! Before we actually slept I spent a good hour trying to get this instagram
but it was totally worth it. I'm so glad I took my polaroid camera with me because I know have so many lovely photos not just on a phone of laptop.

F R I D A Y (Day 5)
I spent pretty much the whole morning packing and then Natalie took me to the airport! She had a hot chocolate but I was too anxious to have anything and then it was time to go. We both cried a little bit (and then I cried through security which wasn't embarrassing AT ALL) and my gate was announced about five minutes after I got through so I had time to buy three bags of haribo peaches, two of which are now gone, and then eventually I was back in London. I had a few hours before my train so I watched some Gavin and Stacey and wrote some blog posts for you all!
All in all I had the most amazing week. It's nice to spend time with someone who actually makes me belly laugh and someone who really knows me. *This is where we get to the cheesy part* I'm very lucky to have Natalie and seeing her twice a year is difficult even though I speak to her every day! I haven't been so happy in a long time and I'm just so glad I went! So thank you Natalie for making me laugh so much, having me and taking me to places that you've probably been loads of times
