What I'm Taking To University 2015

by - 00:46

Hello you lovely lot!

So, I am in the middle of packing for University as I'm moving in on the 26th September! I know I've looked for millions of blog posts to see if I could find any advice on what I should take with me so I thought i'd give it a go myself! I am starting my first year so obviously I don't know if I need all of this and I don't know if I'm missing anything. If I find out that this is the case I will definitely update you all! However, for now, this is what I have!!

I'm obviously going to be taking the necessary things like duvet, bedding, pens, pencils, cutlery etc so I'll try not to include that stuff! *This is going to be a MASSIVE post*

STATIONARY

  • My Laptop
I have seen SO many videos saying that a laptop is a must have! Luckily I got my laptop for my Christmas/Birthday present so I don't have to splash out on one! I'll be able to write essays and notes on it and it will make my notes so much neater!

  • My (very broken) Ipad
I told Mum and Dad I wasn't going to take this with me because it is so smashed up but I don't think I can leave it behind! It's got all my music on it and so many photos I want to keep! How could I leave it?

  • Printer
I wasn't sure whether I was going to take a printer to begin with because I know there's ones on campus but I have heard it's much easier to bring your own because you can print stuff off when you want and any time of the day, perfect for someone like me who's very last minute!

  • Notebooks
I think this is a given really. If you're not taking notebooks I'm not sure what you're doing? I think I'm going to type up my notes in lectures and the I'm going to write them out in lovely colourful pens when I get back to my room so it'll be cemented in my brain! Also one of my notebooks smells like strawberries and even though i already had two, I had to get it...

  • Dividers
You know, for separating my notes. I think these are going to be particularly useful seeing as I'm doing two subjects!

  • Pencil Case
I literally don't even remember the last time I had a pencil case. I think maybe at the start of year 12? For most of college I just shoved a few pens in my bag. NOT ANYMORE. I bought a lovely floral one because that's the theme I'm going for (SADDO).

  • Sharpies
I love sharpies but have never owned any? I did steal one from my drama teacher by accident once...sorry Heather, I have your brown sharpie. I bought a huge pack because they were half price when you bought other stationary and I'm going to have the prettiest notes!

  • Hole Punch/Stapler
Mainly for peace of mind, I'm going to try and keep my notes so neat because I know how frustrating it can be when your notes are all messy and out of order!

  • ‘To Do’ notes
I am so determined to keep on top of my work because I hate being stressed out about it so I'm going to write a list every morning and stick to it! Then I will *touchwood* never be really stressed!

  • Folders
Bought two lovely ones from Tesco. They fit in with my floral theme and I bought one for each subject!

  • Diaries
I have two diaries. One I bought myself which is going to be for personal stuff like days I'm coming home and birthdays. The other is an academic one so it's going to be my deadlines and my timetable and all that!

  • Books
Aside from the books I'll need for my course I'm going to be taking one or two actual books I can read in my spare time then I can swap them over when I come home! I'm also taking a few cookbooks because my cooking skills currently expand to beans on toast and I don't even like baked beans.

  • Meal Planner
I'm not really sure what my relationship with food is going to be, it fluctuates at home and I'm either going to fall back in to the pattern of rarely eating or fall back in to the pattern of eating shit loads! So, I'm taking a meal planner so I can make sure I eat a healthy amount either way! Also useful for budgeting and making shopping lists so I don't buy loads of junk. I am also joining a gym

FURNITURE

  • Cushions
I'm so determined for my room to have a homely feel and I think that some nice cushions would do this so perfectly! I'm going down to IKEA the day I get there so our car isn't packed too much and I'm going to buy so lovely comfy ones!

  • Furry Blankets/Throws
I don't sleep with a duvet *SHOCK HORROR*. I sleep with a fluffy throw instead, I will obviously still be taking my duvet for really cold nights but my two nice throws are coming with! I think they'll also make it feel more like my own bed?

  • Mattress Topper
I've seen quite a few people recommend these. The beds obviously aren't going to be the most comfortable so this will just make it a bit softer I think!

  • Bath Mat
SO many people have said take one of these with you, I think I probably would have taken one anyway if I'm honest because I have an en-suite so I have to clean it myself, don't want water all over the floor!

  • Coat Hangers
My mum's not sure if I need these but I have no clue whether there will be coat hangers when I get there? So i bought these from Primark, they were a bargain!

  • Soft Toy
I don't use pillows either (what is the point in me having a bed really?!) and as weird as it may sound I use my giant Stitch toy. My friends Lizzie and Gemma got it for me as a Christmas present and so it means a lot to me I guess! Another way to make my room feel more like home!

DECOR

  • Photo Frames
I bought these two big ones from Tesco because they can fit three photos in each and I want loads of photos in my room to remind me of friends and family in times where I feel a bit sad!
  • Fairy Lights
Fairy lights are something I swear buy! I have one set but I think I'm going to buy more when I get to Liverpool because they just make such a nice room!
  • Painting
I bought this paining when we were on holiday in Wales because it's a painting of the beach that's in the village we stay in! I love this place so much and it reminds me of being happy so i thought it would be a cute little addition to my room!
  • Photo Album
I'm taking this as well as loads of photos because you can never have too many photos? I have two, one that I bought myself and one that my cousin got me for my 18th birthday full of baby photos of me!
  • Command Hooks
I am technically not meant to hang anything up in my room but I have bought these because they have great reviews and don't leave any marks so I can hang stuff up and nobody will know!

  • Posters
I have two posters that I really want to take. My 'Choose Happy' SprinkleOfGlitter one, and my E.E Cummings one that says 'The most wasted of all days is one without laughter'. I really want these to remind me that I need to stay happy. I've had times in the past few years where life hasn't been so rosy but I am much happier now. The prospect of being alone and feeling like I can't talk to anyone because all my friends are so far away scares me. However, I know Natalie is only a call away, but she's not always free to talk. So for times when I'm feeling shaky, I'll have these on my wall and I'll know I'm alright deep down!

  • Polaroid/Photo Booth Photos
I've got so many of these and I love them hung up in my room at the moment! I'm not sure how I'm gonna put them all up yet but I will find a way!

CLOTHING ESSENTIALS

  • Jumper
I bought this jumper from Nike and it's an XL Mens jumper so it's HUGE but it's so comfy and I will most definitely be going to Tesco at stupid o'clock in it!

  • Tracksuit Bottoms
I never wear tracksuit bottoms and I mean NEVER. I would not be seen dead in them. However, I have two days where I don't technically have to leave my room and I don't really want to sit in my PJ's all day because I won't get anything done and I don't want to waste my nicer clothes on those days! So these are perfect!

  • Hoodie
This is similar to the jumper in that it's mega comfortable and I will most likely wear it to my early morning lectures with some leggings and a vest top!

  • Leggings
As mentioned a second ago. Monday morning lectures.

  • Big T-Shirts
I hate pyjama tops sometimes, womens tops are always so fitted and just not comfy for bed? So I'm packing a few (SO MANY) big t-shirts to wear with leggings or to bed!

  • Rain coat
I have a raincoat but it's bright pink and something I wouldn't wear when I knew I would see other humans I know. So I bought these nice jacket ones so that I wouldn't have to walk around looking like a flamingo.

  • Slippers
I don't want to walk around my flat in my bare feet, nor do I want to walk around in my converse so here's my compromise!

  • Dresses
I presume I'm going to be going out quite a bit so I have a few nice dresses, some more formal than others since I have a Welcome Ball too!

  • Heels
I won't be wearing these on nights out because I like my feet as they are but I think I'll wear them for posh events maybe?

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Travel Mug
I couldn't think of where else to put this?! I think I have early lectures on Mondays at the other campus so having one of these means I'll be able to get on the shuttle bus at silly o'clock and still have my cup of tea!

  • Water Bottle
Ok, so, I won't be able to afford bottled water/juice every day as much as I would like to! So, buying my own bottle means I'll be able to fill up my bottle before I go then refill it during the day! This is also more likely to stop me drinking all the fizzy stuff I drink now!

OK! So I think I probably forgot to mention some stuff but you know the essentials! This blog post puts my mind at rest because I can look back and check I've got everything! I might add to it at a later date I'm not 100% percent that I've bought everything I want yet!

Thank you for reading!
