TOP TWENTY : Coldplay (Blogmas Day Four)

by - 16:55

Hello You Lovely Lot!

I am a huge lover of Coldplay and have been ever since the first Singstar game came out with 'Fix You' on it. I used to beat Dad every time on it (get me on X-Factor mate) and I fell in love with the song and eventually with the band. I can't believe I'm getting to see them next year. Seeing them has been on my bucket list along with 'The Script'...I will see you one day Danny, one day.

I can't believe I haven't written something like this for these boys yet, it baffles me. So, what better time to do it than Blogmas hey?! I did try to do a top ten but it was too heart breaking so I shoved an extra ten on the end!

Let's see how long this takes me to write...(it took me about an hour to choose them, let alone write them).

20. Shiver - Parachutes (2000...I WAS THREE, WHAT IS THIS)

I forgot how much i loved this till I listened to it to see if it would be on the list! It's a classic from their debut album. It does a classic Coldplay and builds up during the middle which is what I love about them.

Favourite Lyric : From the moment I wake till the moment I sleep, I'll be there by your side, just you try and stop me.

19. Everything's Not Lost - Parachutes (2000)

I was obsessed with this one at one point and it surprises me that it's not higher up on this list considering I used to play it on repeat. However, my favourite Coldplay songs do change depending on what mood I'm in.

Favourite Lyric : Don't you let it drag you down

18. Lost? - Lost! - EP (2008)

I've always thought of this as my favourite Coldplay song but it clearly isn't! It is a classic though and I've chosen the acoustic one over the album version because I heard this one first so it's stuck with me! Also used to be Harry Styles' favourite Coldplay song...just saying, match made in heaven.

Favourite Lyric : Doesn't mean I didn't get what I deserve

17. We Never Change - Parachutes (2000)

All of the ones I've picked so far are sad ones which isn't surprising with Coldplay really because that used to be their thing. I think they've moved on to a more upbeat tone now which I still love! This is such a lovely song with beautiful lyrics and always makes me cry.

Favourite Lyric : Live my life and have friends around

16. See You Soon - The Blue Room - EP (1999)

I was two when this song came out which is ridiculous but shows you that Coldplay songs really do stand the test of time which is what a good band does! This one is so beautiful and I'm surprised it's not higher up on the list!

Favourite Lyric : In a telescope lense and when all you want's friends, I'll see you soon

15. Christmas Lights - Christmas Lights - Single (2012)

Of course this was going to be on here, it's Christmas?! Although this is always one of my favourites and I sometimes even listen to it when it's not December, maybe even in Summer (*collective gasp please*). It's just so sweet and not the average Christmas song which I like and this time of year it comes in to its element.

Favourite Lyric : I go singing out of tune saying how I always loved you darling and I always will OR When you're still waiting for the snow to fall, it doesn't really feel like Christmas at all

14. Yellow - Parachutes (2000)

This is a classic Coldplay song and one that most people will have heard or at least heard of even if they hate Coldplay with every single fibre in their body. I don't know how those people live though (yes Noel Fielding, this is you). Of course this was going to make the list. I love it and will have to make sure I have tissues for when I hear it live.

Favourite Lyric : It's true, look how they shine for you

13. Trouble - Parachutes (2000)

I went through a pretty bad stage in my life and this song summed up the way I felt at that time. I felt like I was bothering everyone and was just causing trouble which is the theme to this song. This song makes me sad because it reminds me of that time but Coldplay honestly got me through it with alot of these songs and they're still my favourites.

Favourite Lyric : A spider web and I'm caught in the middle

12. In My Place - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002)

I never really classed this as one of my favourites but apparently it is! It has lovely lyrics and is probably another one that people would recognise the tune to if they heard it however I don't think many people would know it if you told them the name.

Favourite Lyric : Please, please, please come back and sing to me, to me, yeah

11. Green Eyes - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002)

This song used to remind me of Harry Styles because he has green eyes and I used to get emotional whilst listening to it, I think I need help. I have since stopped thinking about Harry Styles whilst listening to it (I promise...) and now I just enjoy it although it still does make me a little bit sad I guess. I don't even think it's meant to be sad but you know, whatever.

Favourite Lyric : How could anybody deny you? I came here with a load and it feels so much lighter now I've met you. Honey you should know, I could never go on without you (it's a long one but it's the best bit)

10. A Rush Of Blood To The Head - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (if you hadn't already guessed) (2002)

I listened to this album quite a bit when my mum was in hospital because it was the only one I had in the car at that point and since I was visiting her everyday I would listen to it for a good hour each day. I've loved the whole album since then and this is one of the ones I didn't know so well before that time. Now however, it's on my top twenty list!

Favourite Lyric : Honey, all the movements you're starting to make see my crumble and fall on my face

9. 42 - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends (2008)

I remember never really giving this song much of a chance because I had my favourite Coldplay songs and I was happy with them. Then it came on shuffle one time and I actually listened all the way through and the way it changes half way through just grabbed my attention and I thought I'd skipped songs by accident. I just think this song is so amazing in the way it changes and if you've tried to listen before but given up before a noticeable change, you're missing out.

Favourite Lyric : And since I fell for that spell I am living there as well

8. Strawberry Swing - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends (2008)

I used to not listen to this one at all and just skip it when it came on but when I actually listen to it I really enjoy it! I think it's overlooked quite a lot, especially by me. It's so beautiful and I love the guitar in it! Is it even a guitar? Who knows!

Favourite Lyric : The sky could be blue, I don't mind, without you it's a waste of time

7. What If - X&Y (2005)

This one is quite a sad one for me, just because the lyrics are so upsetting and always make me emotional. It's also quite relatable because I have been in the situation many times when someone has just decided they don't like me anymore and son't want me to be a part of their life. The lyrics are so beautiful and maybe my favourite Coldplay lyrics ever?!

Favourite Lyrics : What if you should decide that you don't want me there by your side, that you don't want me there in your life?

6. Life In Technicolour ii - Prospekts March (2008)

I found the video for this before I found the actual song and can I just say that it is one of my favourite videos of all time. Obviously I had heard the original and liked it but it had no words. Then they added words and stuck 'ii' on the end of the title and BAM, one of my favourite Coldplay songs ever!

Favourite Lyric : Oh love, don't let me go, won't you take me where the streetlights glow

5. Charlie Brown - Mylo Xyloto (2011)

I think I listened to this at a really dark time and because it's such an uplifting song it just helped me get through all the stuff I was going through! I was so jealous of all the people that went to the Mylo Xyloto tour because it looked absolutely amazing. Mylo Xyloto was not an album I liked at first because I loved the classic Coldplay song but this was the start of the more electronic sounds I think. Now I love this album, it just took me a while to get used to it.

Favourite Lyric : Took a car downtown where the lost boys meet OR All the highs, all the lows, as the room a-spinning goes, we'll run riot, we'll be glowing in the dark

4. The Scientist - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002)

This had to be on here somewhere! I don't care if you love Coldplay or hate them, you have to know this song and at least appreciate it's a classic. I remember when I went on a German Exchange when I was in secondary school we were all walking along singing this and I still know every single word. I just think this song is amazing and so beautiful and the video is exactly the same.

Favourite Lyric : You don't know how lovely you are OR Questions of science, science and progress, do not speak as loud as my heart

3. Violet Hill - Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends (2008)

This is another one that I didn't realise I loved so much until I listened to it to make this list. I think this was quite different for Coldplay at the time it was released because its not your average sad ballad which is what Coldplay tend to be known for. I think that's why I love it so much even though I obviously love the classic Coldplay sound otherwise I wouldn't have has to do a 'TOP TWENTY' because I couldn't choose just ten...

Favourite Lyric : If you love me, won't you let me know?

2. Fix You - X&Y (2005)

We all know this. If you like Coldplay and this isn't in your top twenty songs I am ashamed. This is the song that got me in to Coldplay too. When Singstar came out in 2008 I was 7. Dad bought is and the first time we played it he said "Oh Becky this song is amazing we have to try this one!". So we did. Low and behold, it was 'Fix You'. I always beat Dad at it and listened to it in my spare time, I was obsessed. I still love it to this day and it makes me very emotional because Coldplay have got me through a lot and this is the reason I love them so much. I will sing this louder than ever before when I hear it live and know that I am doing 7 year old me proud.

Favourite Lyric : And high up above or down below, when you're too in love to let it go OR Tears stream down your face, I promise you I will learn from your mistakes

1. Warning Sign - A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002)

So here we have it! My favourite Coldplay song! This is again off the album I listened to when my mum was in hospital but I did know it before that. It makes me cry every time because I can just think about a situation every time I listen and it's not even necessarily always the same one! The lyrics to this just blow me away every time and I know they won't play it live because it's not one everybody knows but it has been my favourite for a few years now.

Favourite Lyric : Come on in, I've got to tell you what a state I'm in OR When the truth is...I miss you OR So I crawl back in to your open arms

So there you have it! The longest blog post EVER! Hope you enjoyed reading it even you ever did make it till the end or if you were just curious and wanted to know what number one was without scrolling through them all. I stayed up very late writing this so I now need sleep. Thank you.

Thanks For Reading!

Becky x
