McFly Anthology Tour 2016

Hello You Lovely Lot!

Now, if you haven't been hiding under a rock for the past week you will know that McFly announced a new tour! They've called it 'The Anthology Tour' and it's unlike any tour I've ever heard of. Basically, they're only playing venues at this moment in time; Glasgow, London, Manchester and Birmingham. On night one of every venue they will play all of their first album, Room On The 3rd Floor. On night two of every venue they'll play albums two, Wonderland, and three, Motion In The Ocean. Then, on the third and final night of every venue they'll play their last two albums; Radio:ACTIVE and Above The Noise.

The minute I heard this news I had to think about which night I wanted to go to. Night one would obviously be great because that's their first album and the album with 'Five Colours In Her Hair' on (although I think they might play that every night because you can't go to a McFly concert and NOT hear that song!). My first thought was night three because Radio:ACTIVE is my favourite album. However, Above The Noise is probably my least favourite album (although it does have some right bangers on it, mainly 'iF U C Kate', 'End Of The World' and 'Nowhere Left To Run'). I had to think about if it was really worth it to hear my favourite album. In the end I decided that night two was the night for me.

When I first became a McFly fan, after I saw them on tour with Busted, 'Room On The 3rd Floor' was already out and so the first album that I was a fan at the time of release for, was 'Wonderland'. That album was effectively the soundtrack of my childhood and I remember listening to it all over and over again and I fell in love. When I started to become a McFly fan again (they fell off my radar for 'Motion In The Ocean' I have to say) I still knew all the words to all the songs. So to hear that live would be amazing. Then we have 'Motion In The Ocean' which of course has 'Star Girl' on it (another one that I think they could play every night) but also 'Bubble Wrap' and 'Transylvania' which are probably two of my favourite McFly songs.

However, I then sat down and went through every album to just check I was sure. What was I going to do about 'Surfer Babe' and 'Broccoli' if I didn't go to night one? And what about 'Lies' and 'POV' from night three?! Another concern was 'The Heart Never Lies'. If you've read my blog before you'll know that it's my favourite song ever, let along just my favourite McFly song. This song was not on any specific album, so which night do I go to if I want to hear that? It was on the promo video so I have no doubt that they'll play it at some point.

I just couldn't make my mind up. I felt like I couldn't miss any of the nights after being a McFly fan for the majority of my life. Do I just not go at all to avoid the sadness of missing certain nights? Oh no. I buy a ticket to go to all three Birmingham shows. So £120 later (thanks Student Loan, love you always) and I am going to hear every single McFly studio album live. I am a massive one for complaining about songs being missed off setlists and not being able to hear my favourites but I literally can't do that not (although I don't think they'll play 'The Way You Make Me Feel').

I am going to the first night with some friends and was meant to be going to the second night with my dad (my dads always wanted to see McFly, don't judge him). However, he forgot about getting a ticket and so now I'm going to two nights alone and will be booking a hotel in Birmingham for three nights. It's going to cost me a bomb overall.

I've grown up with McFly and I literally don't know if I would be here without them (oh my GOD how cheesy is that). There are certain songs off albums that I just couldn't miss and if this was the last McFly tour, touchwood it's not, I would never forgive myself. McFly has shaped who I am and my musical taste and I think they will always be my favourite band (soz 1d love ya).

The songs I'm most excited to hear are...

ROOM ON THE 3RD FLOOR :

Track 3 : Room On The 3rd Floor

I don't know if I've ever heard this song live but it's always been one of my favourites and so I am desperate to finally hear it played it in the same room as me! It's such an underrated song on this album I think and definitely one of the best in my opinion.

Track 10 : Unsaid Things

Sometimes I forget that this is on the first album and I feel like it deserves so much more recognition. It's crazy to think I'm going to hear all these songs that I've only ever listened to on my laptop or phone before!

Track 11 : Surfer Babe

This was my favourite song on the album for so long and there was even a time when I knew it off by heart on my Ukulele. It's right at the end of the album and so not a song that everyone knows necessarily and I just can't wait to sing along to it live?!

Track 12 : Not Alone

I think that this will be the first time I cry in the three days (but definitely not the last). Recently I have learnt to love this song again after downloading the whole album on to my iTunes. I have been listening to the acoustic on YouTube quite a lot recently and the song just makes me emotional!

Track 13 : Broccoli

This is the last song on the album and is such a fun song! I think it sums up the whole first album for the boys. It's another song that gets overlooked simply because it's at the end of the album!

WONDERLAND :

Track 4 : The Ballad Of Paul K

As i mentioned, this was the first album that came out whilst I was a fan and when I heard this song just thought it was unlike any song I'd ever heard. When I heard it again for the first time in years, I knew it all straight away and I think it's maybe one of my favourite McFly songs.

Track 6 : Too Close For Comfort

I went through a stage probably about a year ago where this was my favourite song and I would just listen to it again and again. I think the lyrics are so beautiful and it is another one that will probably make me cry, although to be honest, what song won't make me cry?

Track 9 : She Falls Asleep Pt. 2

I don't know if Tom will play part one to this because it is literally just orchestral but I think this might be my favourite song from the whole album and there is no doubt that I will be in tears at this one. This song just seems so clever to me and maybe that's because it's so different to all the music I was used to listening to? I have yet to find another song like this that I love anywhere near as much.

MOTION IN THE OCEAN :

Track 4 : Sorry's Not Good Enough

If you've seen Tom's wedding speech then this is one of the songs involved in that (and it also has the best video ever can I just say?). I can't remember if I've ever heard this live but it's a McFly song that I know I can always come back to no matter what music I'm in the mood for!

Track 5 : Bubble Wrap

Oh my. Where do I even start. I have heard this live and I cried my eyes out throughout the whole thing. I have no doubt that I will be doing the exact same thing on the night. This is most definitely one of my favourite McFly songs and even if you don't like McFly I would recommend it. It is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and even makes me cry in the car sometimes so I have to turn it off because you can't cry and drive. Fact.

Track 6 : Transylvania

I have never heard this live and it pains me inside. It's a McFly song that loads of people know for some reason? It's also one of the best in my opinion. One reason I am so excited to hear this live is this is a song where Dougie sings the chorus. Dougie is my favourite McFly member so to hear him sing live fully will complete my life!

RADIO:ACTIVE

Track 1 : Lies

I think this is just an amazing song to hear live because everyone just gets so in to it! Last time I saw this I had lights blasting in my face so I'm looking forward to that not being a thing. It also reminds me of the fact that the back of my head is in a McFly tour video...just saying.

Track 5 : Falling In Love

This has always been a favourite of mine just because of the lyrics. I can't wait to hear the bridge of this song, I just think it's so beautiful and really shows off Danny's and Tom's voices. Songs like this make me happy that they've decided to do the tour the way they have.

Track 6 : POV

I have never heard this live and I think it's one of McFly's best songs to be honest. It's probably another song I'll cry at to be honest. I used to really relate to this song and I thought I was going through really tough times. I feel like I have a different perspective on this song now!

Track 7 : Corrupted

I think this would have been an amazing start to a tour and the lights could just come up at the beginning. if you listen to the start of it, it sounds like something starting up. I should just have a job as their tour manager now. Where do I apply?

ABOVE THE NOISE :

Track 1 : End Of The World

Even though this album is my least favourite I still love and this song is one of the reasons why. I just think that this song is so catchy and I used to love the bit at the beginning where it said all their names! I also think that that would be an amazing start to a tour and they could all pop up from the ground. The possibilities are endless with me as tour manager! I also want Danny to do his rap please (if you know, you know)

Track 3 : iF U C Kate

One of the best McFly songs of all time. This song always reminds me of Natalie because last summer we drove to Birmingham and this was on the CD that we had! It's just such a feel-good song and I can't wait to here it live!

Track 4 : Shine A Light

I have heard this live 5 times now but I never get bored of it. It's one of the most amazing songs to hear at a McFly concert and I'm lucky it's a hit because they play it every time, even at McBusted! It tends to make me emotional live but I've never been emotional at it when I just listen to the album version? So maybe I'll cry (I'll definitely cry).

Track 6 : Nowhere Left To Run

There's one bit of this song that makes me love it so much and it's the bit that goes 'without you I'm not a survivor' and it literally lasts for like 5 seconds but I LOVE IT! The rest of the song is good too I have to say, but you know, we all have fave parts of songs.

Track 8 : That's The Truth

This is probably the most stereotypical 'McFly' song on the album (minus 'Shine A Light') but it's also one that I love! I also love the lyrics for this one even though I can't relate to it at all, I just think it's a lovely song.

Track 9 : Foolish

This is relatively new discovery for me I guess because I had never listened to this album thoroughly until I went to the 'Keep Calm and Play Louder' tour which was when I decided I needed to learn all the words and this is one of the songs that I fell in love with but I have yet to see it live.

It's weird that the album that has the most songs that I'm excited to see on it is my least favourite album? I think that's because the only songs from that album that I've ever seen live are 'Shine A Light' and 'Party Girl' whereas the other albums I've heard quite a few songs from them!

I will definitely write blog posts on all three nights (probably in my hotel room after the gigs to be honest) and I can't wait!

Thanks For Reading!
